In my year experience with Dreamhost I am only positive. I exeperienced only 2 outages, which were resolved in 30 minutes after reporting (in the deep american night). I'd love ssh account, you can manage files, databases and archives directly on the server. Very useful is Dreamhost Wiki, you can find resolved all problems you can have.
Only 2 limits I have found:
- you can't create * DNS record to host Wordpress MU (on domains)
- there is limit for sent emails for one day (but you can use Discussion lists to solve this)
